  1. WinLock - Access Control System for Windows
  2.  
  3. This program is designed to provide you with access control for multiple
  4. user system access from within windows.  It is designed to be used in
  5. conjunction with other windows setup features to provide a reasonable
  6. degree of security for your system access.  It can NOT provide 100%
  7. system control, since most systems allow a user to boot from a floppy or
  8. even to possibly use ^C to exit from AUTOEXEC.BAT at boot time.
  9.  
  10. Installation:  WinLock.EXE must be in the save drive and directory that
  11. you are executing InstLock from when installing.
  12.  
  13. Windows setup options required.
  14.  
  15.         VBRun300.DLL is required in your windows or windows\system directory.
  16.                 This is not installed automatically and is available free 
  17.                 from Microsoft or most any BBS system.
  18.         WinLock must be specified as the screen saver routine in your
  19.                 SYSTEM.INI file (added automatically by InstLock)
  20.         Screen saver must be activated and a time value specified in
  21.                 your WIN.INI file (added automatically by InstLock)
  22.  
  23. If you are a system administrator for several systems you may need
  24. additional control over the windows setup and configuration.  If this is
  25. the case, you should consider the following actions as well:
  26.  
  27.         Keep your AUTOEXEC.BAT file as short as possible prior to loading
  28.                 Windows
  29.         Delete all program manager icons for dos access in your groups - 
  30.                 access to dos will disable the screen saver and automatic 
  31.                 logoff functions of WinLock (since windows will not interrupt 
  32.                 a dos program to activate the screen saver)
  33.         You should place options in your program manager INI file to prevent
  34.                 users from adding program items, deleting items, changing 
  35.                 items, or running programs from the File|Run menu.  These 
  36.                 options help prevent users from installing unauthorized 
  37.                 software on your system.
  38.  
  39. WinLock will log the user off automatically based on the time you
  40. specified during installation.  If the user terminates windows, WinLock
  41. will record the logoff automatically and allow the system to exit.  To
  42. prevent unauthorized access following the termination of windows, you
  43. should execute a disk parking program that requires a cold boot to exit
  44. from, or insure that your WIN.BAT file calls itself again as the last
  45. line of the file.
  46.  
  47. These additional precautions allow you to control your windows
  48. installation configuration and allow access only to authorized users
  49. using authorized sowftware through the windows interface.
  50.  
  51. If you close or exit from WinLock, it will close all other active
  52. windows applications, giving you a chance to save your work if the other
  53. programs normally provide that capability.
  54.  
  55. The unregistered version of WinLock allows you only one user id and password.
  56. It is user id TEST with a password of TEST.  You may copy and distribute
  57. this version of the program freely.
  58.  
  59. The registered version of WinLock allows you to add up to 100 user ids
  60. and passwords per system.  You may NOT copy this version of the program
  61. for use on any machine which you do not own!  The registered version
  62. DOES allow you to copy and use the program on up to 10 different
  63. computers as long as these computers are owned and operated by the
  64. individual or company under which the program was registered.

  66. This program is copyrighted shareware.  Unauthorized use is illegal!
  67.

  82. NOTE:  WinLock has a PERMANENT user id and password of CSSO and DJACKSON
  83. for access to system functions.  This is the userid you need to use to
  84. define a "SYSTEM" user id for future system function access.  You may
  85. have a different SYSTEM password for each system, but only one per
  86. system will be accessible. Do not distribute this user id and password
  87. if you do not want others to have access to this function of your
  88. program!  (CSSO and SYSTEM are the ONLY user ids which will be allowed
  89. to access system functions from the login screen!)
